SunrunnersCar Club

Of Imperial Valley of Southern California

The Sunrunner’s Car Club was formed in

1984 with 16  charter members including

the late  Richard Alford as “Godfather” of

the club. Today we have six club officers,

64 members and growing. We continue to

meet on the first Thursday of each month

at Alford’s Distributing in El Centro. Dues

are still only $25.

The first event held by the club was a car

show and potluck dinner with the Over the

Hill Car Club of San Diego, Ca. as our

guests, followed by a cruising tour of the Imperial Valley in February 1984. The late Frank Barros and Jerry Womack were the

chairmen on this event with an expected attendance of 75 cars. This event has evolved in the Sunrunners annual Carne Asada Run held in March of each year.

Our annual event draws over 150 classics, customs, street rods, and antique cars

from across Southern California, Arizona, Colorado, and Nevada. We make it a family day with the show and shine, raffle prizes, carne asada dinner, music, and trophies with fun for all.

As a non-profit organization, we support various charity organizations such as the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Calexico Neighborhood House, and many community events across the Imperial Valley.

Sunrunners sponsors a team for the American Cancer Society (ACS)  24 hour Relay for Life. 2008 was the 5 th year that we relayed in memory of Frank Barros and for all those that have lost their lives to cancer. We relay also in honor of all of the survivors who have concurred it. We hope our efforts to raise funds will soon help to find a cure for all cancers.

Byron Loftis built and donated this magnificent Hot Rod Wagon which was raffled at our 2006 Carne Asada Run. The raffle earned a total of $3821.00. All proceeds went to the Make-a-Wish foundation.
